In reference to my previous post, one might offer the following counter-point, “But the Babylonian 12 signs bear the same name as many of their sidereal constellations!”
So? There are a lot of kids named Chris, so what.
To be specific, the Babylonians named their star-groups in reference to the deity associated with that group of stars for divinatory purposes. If they named their 12 signs with the same names they gave to some of their sidereal constellations, the direct and obvious meaning is that they considered the same deities to empower the two different things. Sameness of the name does not change the fact that the 12 signs of the Babylonians were tropical, i.e. defined by solstices and equinoxes.
