In modern times, with the rise of extremely dualistic concepts of religion, we tend to conceive of a huge gulf between mater and spirit, god and pleasure, etc. This divisive conception is not embraced by Vedic culture. Certainly dualism has some relevance, for not all things are identical. Selfishness and selflessness, for example, are polar opposites – and thus so are lust and love. However, the Indian concept of divinity neutralizes, harmonizes, and integrates all opposites.

Bhaga is the god of “material” things such as romance, sex and marriage. Bhaga (in the form Bhaga-van) is also the most common classical Sanskrit term for a blessed being. The Purāṇas even define Bhaga-van as a moniker of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Thus the division between material and spiritual transforms.

Bhagavan means, “The possessor of Bhaga.” Sanskrit culture conceives of the Supreme Spirit as Bhagavan: a blissful, attractive, talented and romantic entity.

Parāśara Muni defines the word Bhagavān in Viṣṇu Purāṇa (6.5.79): “To fully possess happiness (bhaga) one must have all majesty, power, fame, beauty, knowledge and detachment.”

Bhaga gives majesty – which means status, influence and wealth. He gives power – which means heroism, bravery and strength. Bhaga also gives fame – which means celebrity and good reputation. He also gives beauty – which attracts others to participate in ones pleasures.

Money, power, fame, beauty… these first four are obvious and well known ingredients of a person who can enjoy great pleasures. Knowledge is a lesser known requirement. We need expertise and skill to really enjoy the pleasures of life. Bhaga, the god of pleasures, also gives detachment – because attachment causes suffering. If we are only attached to enjoying pleasures, we will inevitably suffer. To be detached requires knowledge of what one really is – a spiritual being, not just a collection of senses to please. So in addition to giving money, power, fame, and beauty, Bhaga also gives knowledge and detachment. The complete package of six traits grants supreme pleasure.

The personality of Godhead, especially in the intimate form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, is recognized by Parāśara and his son Vyāsa as the person most fit to be named Bhagavān.[1]

Pūrva Phālgunī has the special ability to grant pleasures and wealth in a manner that befits a spiritually progressive person. It also can incline one to more deeply appreciate the spiritual pleasures and opulence of Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Does Rahu in the 7th Spoil Marriage? Sri Krsna’s Horoscope

Recently I replied to a question, “Will Rahu in my 7th house cause me a bad marriage or no marriage?”

It depends very much upon the strongest aspect to Rahu, and the condition of the dispositor of Rahu. Rahu in the 7th house in and of itself merely indicates that the native must learn how to relate cooperatively with other individuals.

Sri Krsna for example has Rahu in the 7th aspected by Guru from the 11th with Mars (7th lord) exalted in the 9th house. Sri Krsna has 16,108 wonderful marriages. Sri Krsna is the husband of every soul.

Sastra says, “Eko bahu syat” – the One felt that it should be many. This is Rahu in the 7th house of Krsna’s chart. Ketu is in the 1st. Ketu in the first means that “previously” Krsna was atma-rama – self-absorbed, only ONE. But the purpose of existence manifesting eternally from Krsna is Rahu in the 7th house – that the one wants to develop relationships with other individual beings. Why? “Raso vai sah” Because he is full of ecstatic joy (Rasa) and wishes to expand that joy by sharing it with other individual beings.

This is the nature of Rahu in the 7th in the context of the birth chart of the Supreme Pesonality of Godhead, Svayam Bhagavan Sri Krsna.

What is Krishna’s Horoscope, Really?

a pena de pavão de Krishna - the peacock feath...

Image by Fred Matos via Flickr

Question: Also lord krishna’s horoscope. BV raman gave one version, Prashant trivedi given other. What horoscope ISKCON follows? I prefer prashant’s version.

Neither person has any authority or capacity to understand Svayam Bhagavan Sri Krsna. “Tarko ‘pratishtha” Only Mahajana yena gata sa pantah – one the great, great krsna-bhaktas have any intimate knowledge of Krsna all others make fools of themselves by discussing Krsna.

Bhagavat Purana, 10th skanda, 3rd dhyaya, 1st shloka tells that Krsna was born with all the stars and planets and houses in very very auspicious positions and combinations and specifically mentions the ascention of Aja-nakshatra (“Rohinii”). Several shlokas later, the Saaraartha-darshinii tika of Sripad Vishvanath Chakravarthi Thakur references an older astrological treatise named Kha Manikya (which now seems to have been lost) that gives full detail of Sri Krsna’s birth chart as follows: “The Moon, Mars, Mercury and Saturn were exalted. Taurus ascended. Jupiter was in Pisces. Sun was in Leo, Venus in Libra, Rahu was in Scorpio. It was midnight, on a wednesday, while the Moon was in Rohini.”

Anyone who refuses to accept this chart ought to have an exceedingly good reason why they are contradicting the guru parampara, sadhu vak, and saastra. I fully accept this chart.

I have three videos regarding interpretations of this horoscope – including the dasha cycles.

“Weak and Surrounded by Enemies” – Sri Krishna and the 1st lord in the 6th house.

Vasudeva Carrying Krishna over the Yamuna River.

Image via Wikipedia

Bodily happiness: The 1st is the house of the physical body. The 6th is the house of illness and obstacles. The 1st lord in the 6th house thus forms a symbol of the physical body surrounded by illness. This placement decreases the extent to which our bodies are strong and unburdened, and therefore can enjoy sensual and physical happiness.

This image is subject to the influence of surrounding astrological conditions. Of course, all symbolic images are, but this one is particularly so. The incarnation of the Vedic Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna, was born with the 1st lord in the 6th house. He of course enjoyed the highest happiness and health. However it is a fact that the “body” of Godhead is a transcendental substance, not a physical object. Therefore it is noteworthy that this astrological position reveals the non-material, non-physical nature of the enjoyments Krishna displayed during his time on earth. Besides this spiritual point, it also illustrates astrological principles. The 1st lord of Sri Krishna was in the 6th house in an exceedingly elevated “raja yoga” – thus the 1st lord in the 6th house under positive conditions brings a result opposite to what the image suggestion. In other words, the image suggested by the author is the “stock” image related to the condition in isolation of other factors. If the other factors are good, the stock image takes a positive permutation, and visa versa. Krishna is an example of this. His 1st lord in the 6th house in one sense shows that he was completely untouched by physical pleasures; but because that 1st lord was in such a positive condition it contributed to his enjoying life on an unparalleled, transcendental level.

Enemies: The 1st is the house of the self, the 6th is the house of enemies. So the 1st lord in the 6th creates the symbol of the self feeling surrounded by enemies, troubles, worries, difficulties, detractors, and obstacles.

Again, the 1st lord in the 6th is very sensitive to surrounding conditions. Sri Krishna, for example, was constantly surrounded by enemies from the moment of his birth till the end of his life. But because the situations surrounding this 1st lord were so strong and positive, the outcome contributed to Krishna’s ability to very thoroughly and almost effortlessly crush each and every one of those relentlessly approaching enemies. The lesson here is that the 1st lord in the 6th house brings many challenges to us, but challenges are opportunities to become powerful and great. With some good influence on our 1st lord and with some good volition and determination on our part, the 1st lord in the 6th can make us conquer a host of enemies and rise about a field of obstacles.
