Tired of 2012

There are no “planets aligning with the milky way”. You are falling prey to pop astrology! ;) The milky way is ALL OVER the sky. Now, as for the CENTER of the milky way – we don’t know where it is. We know it is roughly between Sagittarius and Scorpio in the zodiac. Winter solstices for MANY MANY years now have been and will be occuring when the SUN is in this region of the Zodiac. I guess you could call this an “alignment with the galactic center” if you want – but thats really stretching it. It is not “planets” aligning with the galactic center – it is one planet, the Sun. And the alignment doesn’t happen “on” 12/21/2012, it is going on for many years during the winter solstices previous to 2012, during 2012 and after 2012.

The hubub about 12/21/2012 is NOT really because of some glactic alignment shebang. It is because a very long cycle of the Mayan Calendar ends (as best as we can translate it) on that date. This makes for a great movie (well, not really…) and is nice for the imagination, but what it really boils down to is that ancient civilizations like Mayan and Vedic and others had time spans for counting very long durations of time. We count years. Great ancient civilizations counted Epochs as well as years. The Mayan Calendar has the end of a “long count” (translate: epoch) occuring on 12/21/2012. It’s not the end of the world, its the end of an epoch.

Is it going to be the beginning of a “New Age“? That would be swell for all the “New Age”‘ers, wouldn’t it? Well yes, lets be open minded and say that it IS the beginning of a new age. Does that mean some dramatic changes are happening on 12/21/2012? No! Its the beginning of a AGE, ages are huge, long periods of time. Even if they change very quickly relative to their length, the transition period between them must be at least a few hundred years, right?

So what is going to happen on 12/21/2012??? Frankly you have been watching it happen since about 1965 when stuff started getting totally upside down and going nuts. Similar stuff will keep happening for a few decades. After that will the world be a better place. I sure hope so. I sort of doubt it, though – being realistic. But, But, But there is one prophecy I put stock into. It is a Vedic prophecy, not really a Mayan one – but perhaps (perhaps) they are linked. A short time after the appearance of a Vishnu incarnation in India (which happened about 500 years ago) there should be a 10,000 year (roughly) “golden age” where human society enjoys a respite from materialism and gets unprecedented access to spiritual bliss and enlightenment.

Still, be that as it may, there is a hardcore punk band whose words are also “prophetic” to some extent. They wrote a song called “World Peace.” In it they explained that this material world will ALWAYS be the material world. Groovy deals here are going to be short lived and less than what you hope for, always, at best. Dig it.

2012

The reason 12/21/2012 is significant is that it sits at one end of a 12,000 – 12,500 year cycle (it is not a perfectly steady movement). The Earth’s poles drift about 23 degrees as it rotates. This causes the north star to change. It is called the “procession of equinoxes”. On 12/21/2012 the drift will hit it’s nadir and begin reversing itself. 12,500 years later you arrive at the zenith – the opposite point.

The Mayan “long-cycle” ends on this date. It is a reflection of the older Vedic galactic calendar which divides history into 4 yugas or Epochs. The first Epoch lasts 4,000 years, the second lasts 3,000, the third lasts 2,000 and the fourth lasts 1,000 years. This creates a total of 10,000 years. Add in the transitional period of 10% of the duration of the Epoch on both the beginning and the end of the epoch and you have

Epoch 1 (“Satya”) = 4,800 years
Epoch 2 (“Treta”) = 3,600 years
Epoch 3 (“Dvapar”) = 2,400 years
Epoch 4 (“Kali”) = 1,200 years

The sum of these 4 epochs = 12,000 years – which is the time it takes the north pole to move from Polaris to Vega (to drift it’s full amount).

When Epoch 4 finishes, the order reverses, this Epoch 4 again starts and moves upwards this time, next coming to Epoch 3, then 2, then 1. And than again the order reverses and repeats.

Note to the learned: These are the manushya-yuga or “humanly ages” – the celestials experiece these on a scale that is exactly 360 longer (thus from their point of view, Kali Yuga lasts for 432,000 years)

NOW PUT THAT ASIDE FOR A SECOND…

Next you have seasonal issues – 12/21 is the winter solstice, the shortest / longest day of the year (depending on if you are in the northern or southern hemisphere). Thus the position of the sun is of particular importance on that day.

on 12/21/2012 the sun will be conjunct the center of the galaxy (a star or black hole called Sagittarius A). This “star” is supposed to be 93 million miles in diameter (the same dimension as the distance of the earth to the sun) it is a black hole 26,000 light years from earth. Many astrologer consider this “galactic center” to be the ultimate source of all the karmic power and authority given to the astrological planets.

When the Sun conjoins this point on a soltice it signifies monumental effects. The last time this happened about 12,500 years ago – which might have been when the quasi-mythological Atlantis was flooded and lost. This is because 12,500 years ago marked the end of the 1st Epoch and the beginning of Humankind’s descent into darkness. Atlantis was lost and human culture gradually fell to pieces.

The nadir of human culture was felt in the the middle of the two Kali Epochs (4) – this was the midst of the dark ages.

At this point we as a human culture began climbing back out of the darkness, rebuilding towards a new flourishing of humanity. This ascent of humanity proceeds over the next 12,000 years gradually. 12/21/2012 is a significant milestone marker. Whether this milestone is marked loudly or quietly remains to be seen. (for more info see my blog post)

Personally, I believe that both America and Christianity (The Kali Epoch’s equivalent of “Atlantis”) will begin an irreversible decline significantly marked at 12/21/2012. And within a few decades or maybe centuries both of them will be lost and forgotten. This will be a good thing for humanity in the long run – but during the transition there will be grief.

We have to keep ourselves aware that the time scale we are dealing with is HUGE. 12,500 years is a LONG TIME. So basically 2012 is happening ALREADY give or take a few years (which is nothing but a moment in comparison to 12,500 years). If you want to see what is going to happen “On 2012″ – look around you today. Sure enough we see a global environmental crisis and a very strong global economic crisis centered on America. It’s not really a “prediction” anymore or a subject of debate, it’s something already happening. The debate is about how far it will go. And I am inclined to say “all the way.”

2012 – The Movie & The Reality

First about the movie

California FINALLY Sinks! (would this include Hollywood by any chance? Please?)

This movie had three parts (wow, how uncommon! :/)…

The first third: *the introduction* which was BORING and had remarkably BAD acting.

The middle third: *action* …sometimes cheesy but “fun” to see tons of people getting swallowed up by the universal form of nature and all kinds of devastation. Watching well known landmarks like Vegas, etc. get all kinds of crushed was, well… “entertaining” and “exciting” I admit! :) The eruption at Mt. BigHorn in yellowstone was my favorite. This third of the movie was good enough to enjoy and sort of made the price of the ticket sort of worth it.

The final third: The end of the world tastes like a cream filled doughnut! YAY! It’s happy!!! Weeeee! … Where is Cindy Lauper or some Valley Girl when you needs someone to stand up and say, “Oh My GAWD… GAG ME WITH A SPOON.” As soon as they got on “the arcs” the movie got RETARDEDLY BAD.

Now, about the Culture of Hollywood and America

Notice that all the posters are from the MIDDLE THIRD of the movie?

Watching this movie from Japan really made me wonder why American cinema feels like it HAS to be so stupid all the time, even about the most serious subjects. What do American’s think about THEMSELVES??? Do they consider themselves that stupid and incapable of enjoying a movie on a large scale with real substance?

In Japan, they make serious, deep movies even about stupid things like baseball and in cartoons – movies with dead main characters, no happy endings, and lots of reality. American’s produce a movie about the end of the world that is silly, follows a predictable pattern and has a … ***happy ending***???

Now, about the Science

The scientific premise of the movie was a complete farce.

This was a pretty awesome visual

(a) The Sun emits a “neutrino” that microwaves the solid rock & metal of earths core and turns it into slush and gush, without at all harming the delicate organic tissue of the billions of people and animals living on the surface!?!?!?!!?

(b) The magnetic field falters and flips poles without the earth getting massive solar radiation poisoning!?!?!?!?!

Did this movie even have a “science consultant?” Is s/he the same one that does all the hollywood movies? Should I take a stupid pill when I go to an American movie? Where do they sell stupid pills? (oh, on TV?)

Is it too much to ask for a believable movie with some actual substance and relevance to real life? Is it bizzare that the most believable hollywood movie I’ve seen in a while was Lord of the Rings!?!?!? Doesn’t anyone with any power in American media realize that people would be interested in real substantive things if they presented it in an exciting way like they always do? Couldn’t this movie have been a vehicle to deliver just a little more knowledge and inspiration about what 2012 is and what it might really mean on a practical, emotional, and spiritual level.

Nah! Now, that would be the end of the world! :)

And finally, about 2012 – the astrology

And you thought all this stuff was silly!? :)

The first 3 minutes of the movie, where you see the planets in outer space coming into some sort of alignment, was by far my favorite part. Later on, my favorite character “Charlie” the crazy guy with the famous radio show, explains (for an instant) that the alignment pertains to the “galactic center.” And for a few seconds during the beginning, in the background on TV (yes, as background noise) you hear them talking about the Mayan Calendar. And they make references to the word “Mayans” a few times throughout the movie.

That’s it.

The Astrology that’s not exactly in the Movie

Well… no one really knows how to calculate exactly WHERE the galactic center is, (what is the “galactic center,” you ask? Why it’s the huge black hole at the center of the Milky Way, my friend!), but we do know it is somewhere within the lunar mansion of Moola (“the root”) which is in the front third of Sagittarius, bordering on Scorpio. (Talking sidereal, astronomically accurate constellations here. In tropical astrology this point falls in the front of scorpio). Is there going to be an alignment of the planets with the galactic center on 12/21/2012

Well, no.

But there IS an alignment of the solstice sun with the galactic center on 12/21/2012 – which only happens roughly once every 12,500 years. This is actually how we Vedic astrologers keep track of the “galactic seasons” (the galaxy has 4 seasons just like the Earth. In Vedic astrology we call them “yugas”). This alignment marks the end of “winter” on the galactic calender.

It is the same in the mayan calendar. Their calender ends because it’s the end of “winter” on a galactic scale. When a calender ends, you start a new one – you don’t call it an “apocolypse.”

Sunrise on 12.21.2012

That said, there are a few rather weird things in the alignment of the planets on December 12, 2012…

As you can see at left, the Sun is arguably aligned with the galactic center. (The Sun is the dark red circle with the dot in the middle. And it’s at 5º23′ of Sagittarius, which could arguably be the galactic center).

There are a few things that look a little “scary” to me in this alignment:

Notice Mars (the bright red one, the “male” symbol)… he’s in Capricorn  - the single constellation that makes Mars the strongest. Notice that he is at 1º57′ in Capricorn? Now look at the other planets. Do you see anyone else at a similar degree? Yep! The grayish and brownish round looking ones: Rahu and Ketu (at 1º33′ – very very similar). These three planets (btw, Rahu and Ketu aren’t physical “planets” but are the locations where eclipses happen) therefore have a very strong relationship to one another, forming a powerful pattern. And guess what? This particular pattern puts Mars and Ketu together in harmonic Capricorn. When Mars and Ketu configure themselves together disaster or strife becomes much more likely.

The "harmonic" (navamsha) space for the 12.21.2012 sunrise

The Harmonic Space (Navamsha) for 12.21.2012 Sunrise

At right is a chart for the harmonic space alignment at sunrise on 12.21.2012. Look at Mars here… see him in Capricorn again?? And see him with Ketu there. This isn’t a pleasant combination.

Back in normal space (in the chart above) you can find Jupiter (the yellow symbol that looks like a 4 and has a medical looking “Rx” next to him) is with Ketu. Jupiter is particularly important to 2012 because the Sun (the whole reason for the hoopla) is in Jupiter’s sign, Sagittarius (and that relationship is strengthened by the fact that Jupiter shares a sign with the Sun in harmonic space.) Jupiter is therefore highly influential as well, but his condition is bad. (He’s deeply in a house owned by his great enemy Venus, which is the house of obstacles and enemies, and is influenced by Ketu who is himself under the influence of Mars).

All this doesn’t mean that you need to buy an airplane with enough fuel to get to China (or save up 1 Billion Euro for a ticket on an “arc”). But it does raise an eyebrow that 12.21.2012 is factually quite a significant date.

Sunrise 12.21.2012 in a North Indian style Chart

There’s another fairly troubling point. Saturn (the blue guy on the left) is exalted (because he’s in Libra). This exaltation is particularly strong (because in harmonic space Saturn is rooted in his own Aquarius). And this is particularly influential in the chart because Saturn aspects Sagittarius, the Galactic Center, and the Solstice Sun.

So Saturn and Mars, the two “nasty” planets, are both exalted (aka at full strength) on 2012.

Another important thing is that Jupiter and Mercury are in “opposition” – in other words they are directly opposite to one another in the sky. And this forms an extremely important combination (a raja-yoga), which links the House of Loss (h.12) to the House of Challenges (h.6) and empowers both of these houses to dominate the chart.

Rahu and Ketu (the true agents of radical, abrupt, revolutionary changes) also activate this Loss/Enemies dynamic. Besides what I already mentioned about how powerful they are on 12.21.2012, now I’ll also mention that they’re moving forwards on 12.21.2012 which is abnormal for them and makes them particularly powerful.

So all told this 12.21.2012 chart does in fact reveal a lot of potential for abrupt, dangerous, and difficult changes to happen – changes which involve radical redirections and potentials for loss and enmity.

So, is it the end of the world???

The Mayan Sun Calendar

No. No. No. No. No. No!

What is it then?

It’s a profound change of direction for the world. A change of galactic seasons. Specifically I’m personally hypothesizing that in a few years or decades…

(a) America and…

(b) Christianity…

…will look back and find that 12.21.2012 marked the most significant events beginning their rather rapid fade from the limelight of humanity to the background.

It's going to look like this for a long time.

Disasters?

Will California finally sink? Is the white house going to get crushed by the USS John Kennedy? Are supermarkets going to become dangerous places, etc. etc.????

No.

I do expect something of a dangerous nature will happen in connection with 12.21.2012. It almost feels absurd to even say that. I remember when I was a kid there was some planetary alignment that was supposed to end the world, what was it, 1984? I know people who believe in the “rapture” and keep post-dating it every time Jesus doesn’t show up on schedule. I remember the hype of Y2K. Etc. Etc. Human beings love the idea of an apocalypse (hence the number of hollywood movies). Guess what though? I don’t believe in the apocolypse… at all.

But sometimes there are huge events that vastly change the course of history. 12.21.2012 is such an event. And I do say that with complete certainty.

The deal though is, that history is huge, especially geological history. Even “rapid” geological historical events often take a lifetime to unfold. Remember that on 12.22.2012.
