South Node (Ketu) Conjunct Venus

Ketu, the South Node

This specifically has to do with synastry, where one partners Venus conjoins the other partner’s south node. But the principle also applies to an individuals horoscope where there is a venus / ketu conjunction.

South node (“Ketu”) makes inner transformations/revolutions by pulling the external world inward, subordinating it to the internal “realities.” The North node (“Rahu) makes external transformations/revolutions by pushing the internal world outward and making the external world conform more closely with the internal “realities.”

Thus the south node is introversion and the north node is extroversion.

Venus

Every couple is unique, so every couple should have their unique compatibility assessment. But as a general guideline, the South Node would pull the senses and sensuality (Venus) *inward* into a more psychogical, spiritual, or fantasy realm. So the sensual experience of the couple would be felt as being mainly psychological / spiritual in nature and can have a lot to do with fantasy and fantasizing.

What is Astrology all About?

An astrological chart is a blueprint of your “karma”.

Lot’s of people use the word karma, but honestly most of them don’t understand what it means. Karma is not “destiny.” Karma includes destiny, that’s true, but it also includes something else: freewill.

Destiny refers to things that will happen to us, regardless of our efforts to obtain or avoid them. Freewill, on the other hand, refers to our freedom to make conscious choices about our life. Most people think these two are opposites. They aren’t. They are two sides of the same reality.

One side of that coin is that we have freewill. The other side of the coin says, “with freedom comes responsibility.” The universe doesn’t grant us freedom without holding us responsible for how we use it! Destiny is how Mother Nature holds us responsible for what we do. Thus destiny is the child of freewill. Freewill is the mother of destiny!

That’s karma – a “yin yang” symbol where the white side is freewill and the black side is destiny.

I make a choice. Mother Nature holds me responsible for it. If it was an enlightened choice, I earn rewarding and enjoyable destiny. But if it was a selfish choice, ignorant of my greater identity, I earn difficult destiny, challenging me to improve such choices in the future. Thus karma is factually the catalyst of enlightenment.

The universe itself, “Mother Nature,” enforces the law of karma. The Earth, sky, constellations and planets are her limbs. Their positions at the time of my birth can be read by the science of astrology, like reading the hands on the face of a clock. The astrological chart of these positions is a blueprint of my karma. Reading that blueprint correctly, I can understand what destinies will manifest in my life as a result of how I used my freewill in countless previous incarnations.

What’s the point of astrology? The point is to not suffer from your karma! Astrology allows us to contemplate and understand the total picture of our karma, and thus allow karma to be what it is meant to be: a catalyst of personal evolution. The purpose of a reading is to help us make the best new free choices in this life, and thus create the brightest future for ourselves, now and forever.

Ardra – Lunar Mansion of “the Tear”

Ardra - The Wet

I translate Ardra as “The Wet.” In fact, Vedic astrology symbolizes this mansion with the image of a teardrop. This mansion is a place whose floors are damp, slippery and wet with tears.

The Vedic deity who empowers this mansion is Rudra – the god of wailing and howling storms. Again the imagery comes of wetness and wailing. Clearly this mansion is not often the first pick on a list of “vacation spots” to visit. But then again if it weren’t for mansions like Ardra we would never put in the hard work needed to make the money it takes to visit a really nice vacation spot. So realize that this nakshatra is all about the effort it takes to grow in a new direction, and to thus finally and significantly improve your experience of life.

The planet who owns this mansion is the turbulent and chaotic Rahu. Rahu is a force of  upheaval and distress, yes – but Rahu is absolutely essential for the process of bringing about progress and change. Rahu influences this mansion to be a place where we can leave behind dead things – dead ideas, outlooks, attachments, and emotions – cry a bit over the parting, and then finally move on to better destinations. Under the influence of this mansion, this is exactly what you should be doing with at least some important areas of your life.

In the solar zodiac you would find Ardra as the bright star Betelgeuse in Orion, which is also within the front section of Gemini. Since Mercury owns Gemini he contributes his energies to the foundation of this mansion. The combination of revolutionary Rahu with intellectual Mercury causes this mansion to be the home of powerful new thoughts and ideas, which may be troubling at first, or difficult to fully comprehend.

In conclusion, the best way to understand the mansion of Ardra is to think of it as a composting place for making fertilizer. Here the tears of deep and turbulent emotions mix with the dead organic matter of things that we have to lay to rest. The combination of the two creates great fertilizer, and out of that fertilizer grows a revolutionary new understanding of life.
